Wenatchee, Wash.- Coming into the series at Wenatchee the Black Bears had seven home runs on the season.
So far in two games against the AppleSox Cowlitz (4-1, 15-17) has hit six dingers en route to winning the series. Wednesday the Black Bears scored 12 unanswered runs after trailing 2-0 to win a season high fourth in a row.
Cowlitz scored their first four runs in the fourth inning while sending eight batters up. In the fifth the Black Bears made it 5-2 on an RBI sacrifice fly from Cory Voss (SR Arizona).
The first home run of the night came in the sixth. Andy Armstrong (SO Oregon State) hit his first of the season to increase the lead to 7-2. Voss then hit his first of the summer in the seventh to put the Bears up seven runs. In the eighth Devlin Granberg (SR Dallas Baptist) hit a homer for the third game in a row. This time it was a solo shot and his team leading sixth jack which made it 10-2.
Cowlitz brought two more home in the ninth with no hits, a walk, a hit by pitch and a couple of AppleSox errors. Wenatchee (3-2, 18-14) scored twice more in the bottom of the inning on their second solo shot of the night and an RBI single but Kragen Kechely (SO Dallas Baptist) struck out the last batter of the game with the bases loaded.
Starter Christian Cosby (JR Chapman) improved his record to 3-1. Cosby lasted a personal season high six innings and gave up two runs on just three hits with four strikeouts and three walks. CJ Blowers (JR Edmonds College), KJ Strickland (College of Idaho) and Kevin West (SO UC Riverside) also pitched in the game.
The Black Bears go for their second sweep of the season Thursday. Cowlitz swept Port Angeles at home June 23-25. Austin Merrill (RHP SO Chapman) gets the ball against Connor McCord (LHP SO Western Oregon). First pitch again is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
