Head Coach - Tim Matz
Personal : I am the father of four boys who are in various stages of their
academic and professional careers. My passion is baseball and my hobbies
include golf, fishing , and hunting.
Coaching: I am entering my sixth year at Santa Ana College where I am the
pitching coach and recruiting coordinator. In my five years at Santa Ana we
have won the conference championship five times and we have produced the
pitcher of the year in the Orange Empire Conference each of the five years.
We have also competed in the final four state championship tournament two of
my five years.
I have coached at most every level, including High school and elite travel
teams at the youth level. I was fortunate to have played for the legendary
Wally Kincaid at Cerritos College where we won the California State
Championship in my sophomore year. After Cerritos I played for Auggie
Garrido at Cal State Fullerton, where we won the conference championship
both years I was there. I also had the privilege of pitching in the College
World Series in Omaha my senior year.
I am extremely excited to have the opportunity to coach the Cowlitz Black
Bears. Having played on high level summer teams when I was in college, I
recognize what a pivotal time it is in these young mens lives. For many of
them it is their first experience away from home and I am looking forward to
assisting them in the maturation process necessary to prepare them for the
next level of their playing careers. Helping them to gain exposure, become
better players, and most importantly, become better teammates is my primary
focus. I am looking forward to each player taking an active part in the
community and encouraging the youth of the area to be involved with the
Black Bears.
